Anyone have a feeling as to how badly I would be hurt trading a 2000 NHTC29D with SS,NH loader, NH 72" belly and 65hrs in mint condition for a Kubota 2710 or 2910 simularly equipped? Thanks!

John, I have had a series of minor problems (with tractor and implements), the last of which happened a couple weeks ago. The steering shock for the tilt steer froze. The mechanic came by and took half the machine apart and realized with the s/s more had to be done, so he was able to free the origonal one with penetrating oil and said it would have to go to the shop for the exchange if it happens again. I am going to semi-retire in five years and want a machine that will last, without having to trade at the end of the warranty period for fear of constant repairs (as has been the case so far). I spoke to a dealer at at the State fair that sold both brands and without saying anything but "which tractor do you think is better" he said without hesitation " the Kubota, if you perform the routine maintenance, it will run trouble free forever." Perhaps a bit of an exageration, but I KNOW my 7100 did. What really surprizes me is that I garage my machine and treat it like most people do their expensive new car. It's washed and waxed regularly and the routine maintenance is "over done" by me. To this point it has been used only as a lawn mower for my three acre lawn. The NH has some GREAT features, but I feel (through personal experience) that they have bugs to work out of them yet. If I am going to get killed on a trade now (after owning it six months) I will do it when the warranty expires in three years. ....

As I intimated, I'm in the market for a Boomer 29 or 33 (D with SS). I have seen some used ones in the market, some with low hours but nearly expired warranties. From my perusal of the tractor boards, it seems like this model is fairly trouble free (but obviously a new line), aside from the steering column problem you indicated. Should I be concerned? Were there any bugs cleared up between the 1999 and 2000 models? (I'm looking at a 1999.) ....

Bradley, supposedly the supplier was changed for the steering column shock in 2000, but I'm not sure, mine was defective. As far as the mechanics of the machine, it appears to be solid. The problems I have had are minor, but would have been somewhat costly if the mechanic were running to my home to make them out of warranty. The two most serious defects were a glow plug that kept blowing the main fuse and the gear box on the 72" belly deck that was grinding itself apart. Other things such as hydraulic leaks from bad loader hoses and some cosmetic glitches overlooked at assembly time are the extent of it. Oh, the dash fogs up when the temperature changes as well, factory rep says no repair for this. Hope this helps. Doesn't sound as bad as some of the 4000 series complaints I've read about here. ....
